USM established the Presidential Scholarships as part of our Creating Maine’s Future Campaign for Scholarships. In today’s challenging economy many more students need assistance to attend college, especially Maine students. USM wants to position itself as a highly desirable and affordable alternative for bright, creative students who can become Maine’s future leaders. Scholarships will be merit-based and highly competitive, designed to attract top students to USM from Maine high schools who have the potential to become future leaders in our communities.
Chosen students will receive $5,000/year in a four-year renewable grant. Creating Maine’s Future Presidential Scholarships will be the University of Southern Maine’s most distinguished academic awards, recognizing scholastic achievement, demonstrated leadership, community service and unique personal qualities. These students must be nominated by their high school principal and will be chosen by a USM leadership council. They will have opportunities and responsibilities to participate in high profile USM activities and to develop connections within the community through participation on the USM Board of Visitors and with USM Corporate Partners.
A Presidential Scholarship can be funded by a gift of $20,000 (or a commitment of $5,000/year for four years).
